Digital Footprint Assignment

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?

During a job interview an employer may have previously looked at your social media and if they found anything offensive it may affect your chances of being hired.

If people see that someone is posting hurtful or offensive content they may not want to write you a reference letter. For instance, a family member may have seen something you said on social media and may not want to write you a letter.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

Using the THINK strategy you can ask yourself whether or not this is a smart post or not.

Make sure you keep all your accounts on private so nobody you don’t know can see what you are posting.

Make sure you don’t follow anyone you don’t know and don’t disclose personal information on your social media such as your address.

If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online? Think of what type of advice you would pass on to your younger self or other students. How could you go about explaining it to them?

I would tell them to make sure they do not add anyone they don’t know personally and use only part of your real name or not your real name at all. I would also tell them to make sure no personal information is given away or posted to their social media. Lastly I would tell them to make sure they THINK before they post and use the THINK strategy to keep themselves safe.
